| | | | | Hello Creatives! May was another busy month for TVWI. Between Meet-ups, Meetings, and Middlers, we had amazing speakers this month. Our book club, Reading Like a Writer, met for the third time at In Bloom Bookery, and we had a fantastic discussion. And our newest Meet-up, RPG & Storytelling, had a great turnout. | | Join us as we welcome Dennis K. Crosby back to TVWI! Dennis has spoken at our monthly meetings and we’re thrilled to have him back for June’s Monthly Middlers. Dennis K. Crosby is an award-winning, author, speaker, and workshop leader with an MFA in Creative Writing. His debut novel, Death’s Legacy, won the 2021 Readers’ Favorite Silver Medal in Urban Fantasy, the 2021 IAN Book of the Year Award for Outstanding Fiction in the Supernatural/Paranormal category, and was a finalist for Outstanding First Novel in the 2021 IAN Book of the Year Award. His sophomore novel, Death’s Debt, won the 2022 Best Indie Book Award for Urban Fantasy. His third novel, Death’s Despair, was released in 2023, and he is currently working on a fourth book in that series tentatively scheduled for release in 2026. In addition to his urban fantasy novels, Dennis has published 20 short stories in various anthologies including Weird Tales magazine, several Castle of Horror Anthologies, Dracula Beyond Stoker, and Of Shadows, Stars, and Sabers. |

| | | | In June, TVWI welcomes April Connors to speak at our monthly meeting. April is a comic artist, author, and life drawing instructor. April will focus on developing characters for visual storytelling media, talking about the process from initial ideation to bringing the character design to a finish. We will cover character design fundamentals as well as drawing exercises to aid the process. Writers are more than welcome, and are encouraged to come and engage with their visual storytelling skills. |

| | | | | Welcome to the TVWI Academy! You asked for professional-level classes, and we listened! The TVWI Academy is announcing our first two classes this summer. The first class we’re announcing is Portfolio Building for Children’s Book Illustrators. Led by award-winning illustrator Amanda Morrow, this 6-week course will guide you through the process of creating an individualized, professional children’s book portfolio you can submit to agents or publishers with confidence. The class will begin June 23rd. Our second class is The Self-Publishing Intensive Workshop with authors Theresa Halvorsen and Chris Bannor. Self-publishing can be exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming, confusing, and isolating. From formatting to distribution, marketing, and launch strategy, many writers get stuck trying to figure it all out alone. This workshop was built to change that. With a small cohort and practical, real-world guidance, you will leave with a clearer path forward and the support needed so you can hold your book in your hands and proclaim, I DID IT! If you're serious about publishing your work, this program was made for you. This class will begin on July 8th. Class spaces are limited, so keep an eye on the TVWI Academy page for class information and registration. |
