Writing can be a lonely pursuit. The same can be said for Illustrating. Part of the job description for each is to sit alone and thoughtfully compose. But no artist should be an island.
Together, we can support, uplift, encourage, and inspire each other. We can seek and give guidance, share knowledge, and commiserate on all the experiences we, as creatives, share. And most importantly, we can join forces to bring awareness to artisans throughout the Temecula Valley. Together, we're stronger. Join us to find out why.
Leo Kelly: Collaborative Storytelling and Embracing Character Failure
A look at storytelling through D and D (even for non-players).
Leo Vaughan Kelly is a writer, singer-songwriter, and multi-media artist. Leo graduated from NYU Tisch 2020 with a BFA from the Rita Goldberg Department of Dramatic Writing and has worked with industry leaders like Apple TV+ and Moonbug Entertainment. His work ranges widely from Children’s music and TV shows, to video game musicals, to serial murder dramas. Leo has spent his whole life with his head in the clouds, trying to find a way to bring others up and send his ideas back down. If you’re looking for world-building, story structuring, or just a casual game of Dungeons and Dragons… he’s your guy.
DND is an amazing format for writers and visual artists because it requires synthesis from the spoken word into a clear mental picture. The faster a player can imagine the story world, the faster they can come up with solutions (or just silly things they want their characters to do). On the flip side, it requires Dungeon Masters to paint a clear visual with their words, otherwise no one at the table is going to ‘see’ what they’re talking about. Both writers and artists are welcome to check out this session for two reasons; to see how embodying a character changes your mental picture of them, and to find moments during a game and try to bring them to life visually.
Come join us for a morning of fun and storytelling with Leo!
